Review reveals that Ag-decorated NiOOH nanorods improve electrochemical performance in biosensing and supercapacitor applications.
The demand for advanced materials with high electrochemical performance has surged with the rise of energy storage and biosensing technologies. Nickel-based nanocomposites, such as NiOOH, are gaining prominence due to their high redox activity, low toxicity, and structural tunability. This review explores the recent development of Ag-decorated NiOOH nanorods synthesized via cyclic voltammetry and sputter deposition, originally designed for nonenzymatic urea sensing. Through structural, morphological, and electrochemical characterizations, we analyze their potential dual-use capabilities in both biosensors and supercapacitor electrodes. The observed synergistic behavior between Ag nanoparticles and NiOOH provides a template for developing multifunctional energy devices operating under neutral pH—bridging the gap between biomedical and energy storage technologies.
