Psychology views happiness as a complex state driven by the pursuit of positive emotions, which can be influenced by both internal factors (gratitude, love, and joy) and external factors (wealth, social relationships, and achievements). Happiness in Vedic Philosophy was not just a state of positive emotion but rather a deep connection with the cosmic order, the “Ṛta”. In Vedic philosophy, happiness, or ānanda, is deeply associated with spiritual and metaphysical dimensions, connecting itself with the ultimate realisation of one's true self and union with the ṛta. This paper attempts to provide an insightful and comprehensive understanding of the three aspects of ṛta (cosmic order) which are Dharma (righteous duty), Yagna (ritual offering), and Moksha (liberation), and the relationships of these aspects in developing the ultimate realisation of self, which can lead to happiness.
