Case report shows spontaneous recovery of subperiosteal hematoma resulting in proptosis in an infant, suggesting early diagnosis is crucial.
A 10-month-old male child was brought by his mother with a history of mild head injury, following which he developed unilateral eccentric proptosis and inferior dystopia of the right eye. Computed tomography scan of the orbit showed a subperiosteal hematoma (SpH) in the right orbit. However, the child had spontaneous recovery of the hematoma with conservative treatment. Although rare, SpH of the orbit should be included as an etiology of ocular proptosis, and its diagnosis should be made early to avoid the associated morbidity.
