Exploration reveals key linguistic features of speech portraits in M. Arbatova’s drama, highlighting women's perspectives.
In recent decades, linguistic science has shown increased interest in studying the language of prose, dramatic, and lyrical works by female authors. Women’s drama represents a unique and multifaceted area of literature, reflecting social and cultural realities, the inner world, experiences of characters, their conflicts, and creating unique speech portraits and images that emphasize the original perspective of a woman playwright in literature. The aim of the study is to identify the linguistic features of speech portraits in M. Arbatova’s drama. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the potential capabilities of speech images functioning in M. Arbatova’s plays are described for the first time. During the analysis, speech representations of various models of images in M. Arbatova’s works were identified. In addition, two dominant models were distinguished: Model 1 “Image of Abstract Concepts”, Model 2 “Image of a Specific Character”. In addition to the main models, other variants of speech portraits (“Image of Relationships”, “Image of Actions”) were noted. As a result, it was established that speech portraits, as important elements of the dramatic text, provide a visual representation of objects, subjects, and concepts in the form of an associative metaphorical image, serve as a means of conveying the author’s idea, reflect social and cultural contexts, and are a vivid example of the language of works of women’s literature.
