Communicative approach is an approach centered on the cultivation of learners’ communicative competence. Unlike traditional methods that focus on grammar rules and linguistic structures, this approach stresses the importance of using the language in real-life contexts rather than learning the rules of usage. Its pri-mary goal is to enhance learners’ ability to communicate effectively, which in-volves not only linguistic accuracy but also the ability to perform various lan-guage functions. In English speaking teaching, it offers numerous ad-vantages. It creates an authentic language environment, enabling students to practice speaking in situations similar to real-life context, thus enhancing their fluency and accuracy. However, current English speaking teaching often over-looks practical communication, relying too much on grammar drills and memo-riza-tion, resulting in students’ inability to apply language flexibly. So this paper aims to explore the effective application of the communicative approach in Eng-lish speaking teaching. By analyzing its theoretical basis and practical strategies, it seeks to provide insights for teachers to overcome the shortcom-ings of tradi-tional teaching and improve students’ oral English proficiency.
