Pre-experimental study finds yoga child pose reduces dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls, suggesting a non-drug treatment.
Background: Dysmenorrhea occurs due to excessive production of prostaglandins, causing pain during menstruation. The impact that occurs due to dysmenorrhea is that daily activities are disrupted. Handling that can be done with non-pharmacology is one of them with yoga child pose. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of yoga child pose in overcoming menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) in adolescent girls at SMPN 2 Pamulihan, Sumedang Regency. Methods: The research method used Pre-Experimental One Group Pretest Posttest. The number of samples was 36 people with Purposive Sampling technique. The analysis used was univariate and bivariate using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The results of the study before being given the yoga child pose intervention most experienced mild pain levels as many as 25 respondents (69.4%). And after being given the yoga child pose intervention most experienced mild pain as many as 26 respondents (72.2%). The results of statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed that there was a significant change between before and after the yoga child pose intervention with a p-value of 0.000 <0.05. Yoga child pose is a non-pharmacological treatment that can reduce menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea). So it can be concluded that there is an effect of yoga child pose in overcoming menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea). Conclusion: From the results of this study, it is hoped that yoga child pose can be used as one of the non-pharmacological measures to reduce the level of menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) and can help adolescent girls to reduce the consumption of anti-pain medications.
