This work demonstrates the effect of magnetron sputtering on silver clusters in graphene systems, highlighting size variations and structural disorder.
In this work, we show graphene bilayer and graphene multilayer (MLG) systems on which Ag clusters were deposited by magnetron sputtering. Atomic force microscopy shows that these clusters are organized in sizes of 200, 280 and 310 nm when deposited on SiO 2 /Si substrates for short deposition times of 6, 10 and 14 seconds, respectively. On the other hand, the Ag clusters increase their sizes when deposited on graphene systems to same times and deposition conditions. The formation of structural disorder due to Ag clusters on the surface of graphene bilayers is clearly observed through Raman spectroscopy. This is evident by a strong increase in the intensity of the D and D’ bands when compared to MLG with Ag clusters.
