Mathematical model demonstrates nonlinear characteristics and energy transfer in UAV wings, highlighting unsteady aerodynamics.
Telescopic morphing wing (TMW) technology offers several benefits, including improved aerodynamic performance, increased manoeuvrability, better fuel efficiency, and wider flight capabilities. However, modelling and analyzing these morphing mechanisms is highly challenging. A mathematical model that closely approximates reality is developed to investigate the effects of morphing on the aeroelastic behaviour of TMW structures. Inertial and elastic coupling between the beams is captured in this proposed dynamic modelling. The aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the wing are modelled using Wagner's unsteady aerodynamic formulations to obtain pure time-domain equations of motion. The non-stationary nature of the system parameters during morphing introduces nonlinear characteristics. Numerical simulations demonstrate complex dynamics, including energy transfer between beams and transient chaotic response during the morphing process.
