Analysis reveals stability boundaries of moving mass in a periodically supported beam, indicating relationships with stiffness ratios.
The current study addresses the stability of a moving mass suspended magnetically from a periodically supported beam. The stability of the free vibration about the periodic steady state has been studied. Findings employing periodic solutions to determine the stability boundary show that the shape of the stable domain resembles, or not, that predicted by the model that includes a beam with distributed constant support stiffness, depending on the magnitude of the bending stiffness relative to the stiffness of the discrete supports; the size of the elliptical parametric-resonance zones that indent the stable domain also vary with this stiffness ratio.
