Quantitative analysis reveals moderate advocacy impact on air pollution in Jakarta, suggesting need for stronger public involvement.
Air pollution remains an ongoing issue in Jakarta. In 2023, air quality in Jakarta continued to deteriorate. As a result, advocacy efforts by affected groups aim to raise public awareness and pressure the government to address the issue promptly. However, despite various advocacy efforts, there has been no significant improvement in air quality in Jakarta. This study uses the Advocacy That Builds Power theory by Julia Coffman, Gigi Barsoum, et al. (2021), employing a quantitative approach and mixed-method data collection techniques. The results show that the strength of policy advocacy on the issue of air pollution in Jakarta falls into the "moderate" category, as indicated by 162 respondents or 53.3%, reflecting increased public involvement in advocating for air pollution issues in Jakarta through various strategies such as campaigns, actions, public discussions, and legal actions. Furthermore, the response of the Jakarta Provincial Government in addressing the issue has been deemed good. However, the issue requires further attention. Therefore, addressing the air pollution problem in Jakarta requires building cooperation and commitment from all involved actors to achieve good air quality in Jakarta.
