Experimental findings reveal that widening magnet arrays enhances uniformity in modulated magnetic fields, suggesting improved magnetic alignment for anisotropic materials.
We experimentally and theoretically clarified the relationship between the width of the permanent magnet array used for magnetic alignment and the uniformity of the modulated rotating field generated by the linear drive motion of the magnet array. The experimental approach revealed that widening the magnet array clearly suppressed the width dependence of the inclination angle of the c-axis in the biaxially aligned DyBa2Cu3Oy grains. From the theoretical approach, FEM revealed the spatial distribution of magnetic flux density vectors generated by the magnet arrays and the relationship between the inclination angle of the MRF and the position (// the width direction). Widening the magnet array contributes to the scaling up of the product for magnetically aligned grains of the anisotropic materials. Three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation by FEM is an effective tool for designing the magnet arrays and evaluating the uniform MRF region in the bi- or tri-axial magnetic alignment process.
