This work examines the environmental role of architects and urban planners in addressing climate and environmental crises, analyzing how education, legislation, public competitions, and professional organizations can enhance sustainable and resilient practices. The exploratory methodology included documentary analysis of National Curriculum Guidelines, professional legislation, competition documents, and the actions of national organizations, alongside international examples. Results highlighted significant progress, such as the 2024 DCN proposal prioritizing sustainability, yet identified gaps in implementation within courses and competitions. Brazilian legislation and the CAU/BR Code of Ethics emphasize environmental responsibility but face enforcement challenges. International examples illustrate the potential for adapting innovative solutions to the Brazilian context. The study concludes that strengthening education, enforcement, and collaboration among sector stakeholders is essential for the profession to play a decisive role in mitigating and adapting to climate change.
