Observational analysis demonstrates 5 Gbit/s link speeds in terahertz communication, suggesting advances in digital signal processing may enhance performance.
The terahertz (THz) band (0.1 – 10 THz) is envisioned as a cornerstone for future 6G wireless communication systems. However, due to the performance limitations of baseband components, current THz communication baseband systems face persistent challenges in balancing transmission quality and algorithmic complexity. In this work, we address key aspects such as modulation/demodulation and channel equalization. Building upon an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) framework, we employ advanced digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms to strike a balance among transmission rate, quality, and computational complexity. By integrating these optimizations, we develop an integrated high-speed, low-complexity THz communication baseband system. The proposed system achieves a single-link speed of 5 Gbit/s, meeting the requirements of most THz communication scenarios. The next phase of this research anticipates implementing the proposed THz baseband communication system on FPGA platforms for hardware validation and performance benchmarking.
