Experimental analysis reveals thixotropic behavior and shear recovery in magnetic fluids, indicating applications in robotics and sensors.
Magnetic fluid is an intelligent fluid that responds to magnetic fields, combining the flow characteristics of liquids with the elastic properties of solids. Its unique properties make it highly promising for applications in magnetic soft robots, intelligent sensors, and other fields. This study focuses on the synthesis of a magnetic thixotropic material using Fe 3 O 4 . Rheological properties are studied using an MCR302 rheometer. Static and dynamic flow curves are measured, and the impact of different magnetic fields on the shear yield stress of the materials is investigated. Shear recovery tests reveal a two-stage recovery process, with decreasing recovery time associated with higher magnetic field strength and iron powder content. This research establishes a foundation for understanding the rheological properties of magnetic fluids, facilitating the exploration of their complete structure and providing guidance for their application in magnetic 3D printing, droplet robots, and magneto-rheological polishing.
