This research demonstrates a novel bio-based epoxy resin, improving shape memory ratios in composites and showcasing potential for aerospace applications.
Shape memory epoxy resin (SMEP) offers high modulus and cost‐effectiveness, making it suitable for aerospace components and smart building systems. This study reported a bio‐based epoxy resin derived from gallic acid (bEP) with an optimized T g of below 90°C and a flexural modulus above 2.54 GPa. The bEP demonstrated excellent shape memory properties, including a shape fixation ratio of 98% and a shape recovery ratio of 97%. Additionally, the composites prepared by the bEP showed excellent shape memory performance, achieving a 96% fixation ratio and a 95% recovery ratio, and can quickly recover 95% of their deformation within 30 s.
