This research demonstrates the impact of annealing on barium zirconate, indicating improvements in structural and optical properties.
The precipitation technique was adopted to obtain the barium zirconate powder sample. The samples undergo further heating to 180°C and 220°C for annealing. The annealed and non-annealed samples were compared to investigate how annealing affects the samples. XRD was performed on the samples for structure analysis. The sample displayed a cubic structure, and the structural metrics derived from the XRD data indicated that annealing improved the crystallinity of the samples. UV-Vis spectroscopy was adopted to measure the sample’s band gap energy (E g ). The Tauc plot from the UV absorption data revealed an average direct Eg of 3.96 eV. Luminescence analysis shows intense luminescence in the green band of the visible zone. The CIE diagram constructed using PL data showed a shift in the chromaticity coordinates of the samples on the annealing temperature. Elements such as Ba, Zr, and O were present in the EDX spectra confirming the formation of Barium Zirconate without impurity. Surface Morphology was analyzed from SEM. SEM micrograph showed that the sample has a rod shape and the morphology changes on annealing were observed. The samples with good structural, optical, morphological, and luminescence characteristics would be used to fabricate good optoelectronic devices.
