This article highlights issues in spatial position control of wells, suggesting improvements through telemetry systems and measurement correction methods.
The correctness of the geological model, field development efficiency, industrial safety and, ultimately, the economic performance of the project depend on reliable information about the spatial position of the well. The article considers the problematic issues of well spatial position control during oil and gas field development, gives proposals for improving the procedure of well spatial position control by surveyor services of field development operators. The basic elements of well positioning when performing measurements by downhole telemetry systems are covered, the method of calculation of azimuth and zenith angle on the basis of telemetry systems data is given, the main sources of errors and applied methods of measurement correction are described.
