Theoretical analysis connects prose poems and immigrant experiences, suggesting new insights into language and memory.
This paper offers a theoretical and creative exploration of the prose poem as a site for the immigrant poet reckoning with place, notions/imaginings of home, memory and language. It argues the prose poem can be useful for exploring transnational borderlands because of its own hybridity of form. That is, by occupying a space between prose and poetry, the prose poem is valuable for exploring multiple and opposing places, histories and becomings. This discussion will be situated within a frame of praxis, drawing on my Flight immigrant poems as practitioner case studies.
