Analysis demonstrates organic waste reduction in Sleman using varying container sizes, indicating BSF larvae effectiveness.
Waste is still a major problem faced by almost every region in Indonesia. The Special Region of Yogyakarta is no exception. The highest waste composition in Depok and Ngaglik sub-districts of Sleman regency is dominated by organic waste at 45%. One of the efforts to process organic waste is using BSF (Black Soldier Fly) larvae. This study aims to determine the effective container size and determine the total waste that can be reduced by BSF larvae. The container variations used in this study were 110 cm × 50 cm × 15 cm, 120 cm × 55 cm × 15 cm, 130 cm × 60 cm × 15 cm, 140 cm ×65 cm × 15 cm, and 150 cm × 70 cm × 15 cm. The parameters to be measured in this study are temperature, humidity, weight of organic waste residue, and weight of BSF larvae. The results showed that the effective container variation in this study was the first container variation with a size of 110 cm × 50 cm × 15 cm. With an average percentage of organic waste reduction of 65.69%. The amount of waste that can be decomposed by BSF larvae in each container is 25kg during one BSF growth cycle.
