Qualitative analysis explores challenges and innovations in Islamic political thought, highlighting ijtihad's role in contemporary governance.
This study aims to explore how contemporary issues necessitate a reinterpretation of Islamic political frameworks, focusing on the balance between adherence to foundational texts and the integration of modern political realities. The objectives are to identify key challenges faced by Islamic political thought today, examine innovative approaches within the discourse, and propose frameworks for adapting Islamic principles to contemporary governance. This qualitative research employs a comprehensive literature review and comparative analysis of classical and modern Islamic political theories. The study engages with various academic debates surrounding the compatibility of Islamic principles with modern political systems, exploring viewpoints from scholars across different schools of thought. Primary sources from classical texts are analyzed alongside contemporary interpretations and case studies of Islamic governance models in different countries. Central to this discourse are debates on the interpretation of Sharia in modern governance, the role of democracy within an Islamic framework, and the implications of globalism on national sovereignty. Scholars argue over the extent to which Islamic political thought can adapt to contemporary issues while maintaining authenticity and relevance. The interplay between traditionalism and modernity is examined, underscoring the need for a nuanced understanding of Islamic jurisprudence in addressing contemporary political challenges. The findings reveal that reinterpreting Islamic political thought is not only necessary but feasible, as evidenced by successful case studies that blend traditional Islamic values with modern governance practices. Innovative frameworks are proposed, emphasizing the importance of ijtihad (independent reasoning) and contextualization of Islamic texts to address contemporary challenges. The study concludes that embracing innovation within Islamic political thought can lead to more resilient and responsive governance structures, ultimately enhancing the socio-political landscape in the era of disruption.
