Experimental analysis reveals improved performance of precast CFSCS columns in axial load using high-performance concrete, suggesting enhanced structural integrity.
Concrete‐filled steel corrugated sheet (CFSCS) offers confinement to the core concrete while the outer galvanized corrugated steel sheet (GCSS) offers excellent corrosion resistance. Application of precast multiple CFSCS columns connected through high‐performance concrete (HPC) in constructing a slender column offers ease of construction while offering excellent quality control due to casting off‐site in a controlled environment. However, there has been no research carried out to examine the performance of precast CFSCS columns with an outer CSS profile and intermediate connections filled with HPC. To fill this knowledge gap, this paper examines the performance of precast CFSCS slender columns subjected to axial compression load. The effects of various types of HPC as an intermediate connection, namely polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete (PPFRC), ultra‐high‐performance engineered cementitious composite (UHPECC), and ultra‐high‐performance steel fiber reinforced concrete (UHPSFRC) on the axial performance of CFSCS columns are examined. Furthermore, the effects of the embedded length of the reinforcement bars are examined by varying the embedded length from 10 D , 15 D , and 20 D , where D represents the diameter of the bar. It is found that applications of HPC concrete, namely PPFRC, UHPECC, and UHPSFRC as an intermediate connection, increase the column's structural performance significantly in contrast to the control specimen. The accuracy of the design specifications for circular SCC columns specified by existing design codes is examined to predict the ultimate load of the precast CFSCS slender columns. A reduction factor () to consider the column height in the ultimate load of the precast CFSCS columns is proposed based on the test results.
