Research shows parasitism rates of 69.75% in tobacco and 71.62% in eggplant, indicating effective use of parasitoids.
The polyphagous aphid, Myzus persicae Sulz. (Hemiptera: Aphididae) causes economic damages to tobacco. The parasitoid Aphidius colemani Viereck (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is one of the most widely used parasitoids on aphids. This project, planed for research of using availability of A. colemani on harmful pest M. persicae on tobacco. The performance of aphid parasitoids, A. colemani against M. persicae on tobacco were investigated at constant temperature. Biological parameters of parasitoid including developmental time, pupal survivorship, percentage of parasitism, and sex ratio of the progeny were studied at 22°C with 10 repeat. Parazitization rate on tobacco were identified 69.75%. Female ratio of A. colemani 61.82%. At the same time, M. persicae grown on eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) plants was used for control trials with the same research method. In this control trial, parasitization rates were reported as 71.62%. The female rate of A. colemani in the control trials was 70.68%. Various factors, affect the efficacy of the parasitic wasp (A. colemani) on tobaccos and eggplants were discussed.
