This review highlights catalytic combustion methods for ammonia, suggesting solutions for high-concentration NH3 use.
Under the background of carbon-neutrality strategy, there is an essential technical application demand for NH 3 as a carbon-free fuel. Ammonia catalytic combustion is expected to become a potential method to solve the drawbacks of direct combustion of ammonia. So far, although a lot of research work have been carried out on the design and catalytic reaction of noble metals, transition metal oxide, and supported zeolite catalysts for the NH 3 -SCO system, there are few studies on high-concentration ammonia catalytic combustion. In the paper, beside reviewing the work on catalytic oxidation of low-concentration ammonia, our recent work is summarized on the activities of catalysts, NH 3 conversion, and reaction mechanisms for high-concentration NH 3 catalytic combustion. Furthermore, the mechanism and method of high-efficiency catalytic combustion of ammonia still needs to be provided for the clean utilization of ammonia.
