Field experiment demonstrates sodium nitroprusside's positive effects on growth and flowering attributes in nasturtium, suggesting potential horticultural benefits.
The field experiment was carried out during 2021-22 at Horticulture Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. To study the effect of sodium nitroprusside on various growth and flowering attributes in nasturtium. Experiment comprised of eight treatments of SNP along with distilled water (control). Experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 5 replications. Spraying of sodium nitroprusside at 800ìM resulted highest plant height (47.62 cm2 ) at 90 DAT, fresh weight of flower (7.38 g) and highest dry weight of flowers (0.66 g). Treatment of SNP 1200 M resulted early bud initiation (39.80 DAT), highest bud diameter (6.84 mm), minimum days of flower initiation (47.96 DAT), highest flower diameter (51.42 mm), number of flowers per plants (114.93). Treatment of SNP 1400 M observed highest number of primary branches (14.80) at 90 DAT and highest number of leaves per plants (301.26). Treatment of SNP 1600 M resulted highest plant spread (161.07 cm2 ) at 90 DAT (cm) and highest peduncle length (15.87cm).
