O CONTRIBUTO DAS BIBLIOTECAS PÚBLICAS PARA O DESENVOLVIMENTO SOCIOCULTURAL o caso da Biblioteca Municipal de Valpaços

Public libraries play a fundamental role in the development of local communities. The general aim of this article is to analyse the role of these libraries in promoting the sociocultural development of the local community. The specific objectives are to characterize the Municipal Library of Valpaços in terms of its resources, services, activities and cultural projects and identify areas of action for the sociocultural development of the local community. The methodology comprises exploratory and descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The case study was carried out through interviews, analysis of administrative documents and the BMV website. The results show that the BMV has played a fundamental role in promoting books, reading and the social and digital inclusion of the local community. The conclusion is that the continuity and innovation of resources, services and cultural activities and projects are essential to strengthening the sociocultural development and civic participation.
