Systematic literature review identifies the role of artificial intelligence and data science in electronic document management, highlighting challenges and opportunities.
Electronic RecordsManagement is an area of Information Science that incorporates a set of technologies, tools, and systems essential for organizing, preserving, protecting, distributing, and using information and informational resources in corporate and institutional contexts, especially with the advancement of the digital age. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science are emerging technologies that offer innovation through process automation, advanced analytics, and improved information retrieval, enhancing efficiency and supporting decision-making. Given this context, a systematic literature review was conducted to address the main question: what is the contribution of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science to Electronic Document Management, aiming to identify patterns, challenges, and opportunities that can contribute to the evolution of recordsmanagement practices? To this end, a review protocol was defined and applied to the Web of Science, Scopus, Brapci, and Listadatabases, covering a timeframe from 2000 to 2024. As final result, 18 articles were selected, mostly experimental or practical research, which provided a broad view of approaches developed for the application of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in Electronic Records Management. Some gaps were identified, including a lack of standardization in terminologies, difficulties in obtaining large volumes of training and testing data, ethical issues, and low adoption by information professionals, which remain barriers to full implementation. Thus, this research seeks to contribute to identifying opportunities for the use of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in Electronic Records Management.
