Radical-promoted synthesis achieves efficient access to CF3-functionalized compounds, highlighting diastereoselectivity.
A diastereoselective, radical-promoted annulation of CF3-alkenyl quinolones with aldehydes has been achieved, providing efficient access to trifluoromethyl carbinol-functionalized dihydrobenzo[k]phenanthridinones. Acyl radicals, generated in situ from the aldehydes in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP), promote this annulation. The reaction proceeds under metal-free conditions and exhibits excellent functional group tolerance. The CF3 group exerts a strong steric influence, leading to exclusive diastereoselectivity. The practicality of this protocol is demonstrated through the construction of furan-fused dihydrobenzo[k]phenanthridinone.
