Synthesis and analysis of nanoparticles reveal energy transfer dynamics in a colloidal system, highlighting fluorescence characteristics.
Synthesis of AgInS2AgInS₂ (AIS) nanoparticles and spectroscopic investigation of energy transfer phenomena are described. Powder XRD identified broad diffraction peaks that are consistent with the tetragonal chalcopyrite phase of AgInS2AgInS₂ NPs. Tetragonal structure was confirmed by the interplanar spacing indices and peak positions, with a shift in XRD peaks, indicating reduced lattice parameters due to increased In3+In³⁺ concentration. FTIR spectra reveal changes in bonding between glutathione (GSH) and AIS NPs due to the role of GSH as a reducing and capping agent. Total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF) spectroscopy identified the presence of Ag and In elements. Zeta potential measurements indicated mean values of 54.8, -28.5, and -13.2 mV, respectively, for AIS-1, AIS-2, and AIS-3 NPs dispersed in water. Higher zeta potential values suggested greater electrostatic repulsion between particles, enhancing dispersion and stability of the colloidal system. Fluorescence investigations revealed how Ag:In ratio influences emission characteristics and energy transfer mechanisms, with FRET being notably influential.
