This hybrid photocatalyst shows a 2.0% quantum yield for CO2 reduction in a nonaqueous environment, highlighting the roles of polymeric carbon nitride and TiO2.
A hybrid photocatalyst panel consisting of a molecular Ru(II) complex ( RuP ), polymeric carbon nitride (PCN), and TiO 2 is developed by sequential deposition of TiO 2 and PCN onto a 1.5 × 4 cm glass substrate via a colloidal solution approach, followed by immobilization of the RuP . The TiO 2 underlayer functions as a scaffold for the visible‐light‐absorbing PCN layer and the RuP CO 2 reduction cocatalyst. Under irradiation by visible light, the RuP /PCN/TiO 2 hybrid panel shows activity toward catalytic CO 2 ‐to‐HCOOH conversion in a nonaqueous environment with the aid of triethanolamine as an electron donor, giving an initial apparent quantum yield of 2.0% at 400 nm with 85% selectivity.
