Case report describes surgery challenges in a child with developmental dysplasia of hip, indicating the complexity of management in 3M syndrome.
An 8-year-old girl with Miller-McKusick-Malvaux (3M) syndrome, characterised by a triangular head, mid-facial dysplasia and skeletal deformities, underwent right femoral shortening, open reduction, varus derotation osteotomy and acetabuloplasty. The procedure was performed under general anaesthesia with continuous epidural analgesia. The findings are indicative of 3M syndrome, a recessively inherited disorder. Anaesthetic challenges included difficult airway management and neuraxial access due to skeletal abnormalities. Early diagnosis and comprehensive planning were crucial for the successful management of the case perioperatively.
