Field testing evaluates displacements and accelerations in a steel railway bridge, indicating structural integrity.
Within the framework of the scientific project BN-282-23, field testing of a steel bridge in operation along the second main railway line Sofia – Mezdra – Varna over the Iskar river at km. 92+049 was carried out. The superstructure of the bridge is a steel four-span continuous girder. The displacements and accelerations were measured at certain points of the first span of the two parallel main girders along the two tracks. The results are compared with those of an FEM model with a modeled load of a four-axle locomotive series 44.
