Field trial reveals significant influence of NPK levels on carrot seed yield and growth traits.
A field trial conducted in 2014-15 is aiming to find the influence of varying Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium levels (NPK) on carrot growth and seed yield. The trial tested NPK fertilizers at rates of (1) 0-0-0, 50-25-25, 75-50-35 (2) 100-75-45, 125-100-55, and (3) 150-125-65 kg ha-1. Results illustrated that a significant impact (P<0.05) of NPK levels has on several parameters, including the number of umbels per plant, seeds per umbel, primary, secondary, and tertiary umbel seed weights, as well as seed yield per hectare. All growth and yield traits directly influenced seed yield hectare-1. Notably, the highest average seed yield per hectare (2468.44 kg) was observed in the carrot crop treated with NPK @150-125-65 kg ha-1 while Lower NPK doses resulted in diminished yields producing the minimum seed yield hectare-1 (1963.35 kg), as compared to control plots without NPK application yielding the least seed yield hectare-1. Increasing NPK levels correlated positively with seed yield.
