Observational analysis of citrus psylla populations in Kinnow trees highlights temperature influence on abundance.
The present study was conducted on “Seasonal abundance of Citrus psylla, Diaphorina citri on Kinnow” CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during 2022-23. The observations on the seasonal incidence of D. citri were taken five times on each of the three trees (replications) by counting the number of adult and nymphal populations of citrus psylla from terminal tender shoots. The seasonal abundance of citrus psylla started in the first week of August (31st SMW) with a peak population of 76.30 psyllids/twig during the first week of September (36th SMW) while the least population was recorded in the second week of October (41st SMW) with 2 psyllids/twig. The population of D. citri had a significant positive correlation with the maximum temperature (r=+0.781), minimum temperature (r=+0.740) and sunshine hours (r=+0.673) while a non-significant correlation with relative humidity (r=-0.471) and rainfall (r=-0.338) which clearly shows that dry weather conditions along with tender flush leaves favoured the multiplication of psylla.
