Study demonstrates effective cleansing gel formulation using soap nut extract and surfactants, indicating promising cosmetic applications.
New cosmetic and pharmaceutical products are polymer gels. Using gel forms based on synthetic polyelectrolytes as a matrix, it is possible to create a whole range of cosmetic products with various effects. A promising direction is the production of products for washing and cleansing the skin on a gel basis using dermatologically mild amphiphilic compounds and biologically active ingredients. In accordance with this, decylglucoside was chosen as a surfactant, which makes it possible to obtain a dense, stable foam and does not irritate when applied. The method of shaking and tensiometry revealed the effect of foaming and the surface activity of the soap nut plant extract, which additionally has antimicrobial, regenerating and anti-inflammatory properties. Compliance of the developed gel systems with all concentrations of biologically active and amphiphilic components with the requirements of standart for this type of product was established. Rheological studies of cleaning gel systems were carried out on a rotational viscometer «Reotron» in a controlled shear rate mode. It has been established that all the studied compositions are characterized by a non-Newtonian type of flow and have viscoplastic properties, which is expressed in an asymptotic decrease in viscosity to a minimum value with an increase in shear rate. The thixotropic properties of the gels are confirmed by the presence of a hysteresis loop in the flow curve. It is shown that the values of rheological parameters of the compositions decrease to different degrees with increasing surfactant concentration. The values of mechanical stability indicate that the gel framework of cleaning gels is not structured. The content of 0.75 wt% of decylglucoside in the system allows to obtain an effective cleansing gel composition with soap nut extract characterized by an optimal complex of rheological and consumer characteristics.
