This review finds diverse skin lesions in pregnant women with COVID-19, indicating potential early signs of infection and its impact.
The number of COVID-19 cases, particularly those involving pregnancy, continues to be an issue in India and around the world. Fever (temperature>38°C), cough, and shortness of breath are the primary clinical signs. It can also be accompanied by weariness, myalgia, gastrointestinal issues like diarrhoea, and even freshly discovered skin condition signs. Although SARS-CoV-2 cutaneous symptoms are less frequent in expectant women, the timing, location, duration, and pattern of associated skin lesions can help determine the disease's severity. Skin symptoms may be an early indicator of such an infection, hence clinicians must be informed in order to conduct early COVID-19 screening in expectant women for the benefit of the mother and the unborn child. A wide array of dermatologic presentations associated with SARS-CoV-2 is reported in the literature. This review explores the expanding reports in the literature of the dermatologic presentations of skin lesions related to SARS-CoV-2 in pregnant women.
