Evaluation of insertion devices enhances beamline performance for X-ray microscopy in a BSL-4 facility.
The ORION project will integrate a biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) laboratory with the SIRIUS synchrotron light source, which will contain dedicated beamlines for X-ray microscopy of biological materials. This study evaluates different types of insertion devices (ID) to meet the source demands of ORION beamlines. Given the challenges of achieving high photon energies in a 3 GeV synchrotron, radiation emission calculations were performed for three undulator types. A numerical approach based on SPECTRA software identified the most suitable configuration for optimal performance. Future studies will assess the impact of the chosen IDs on electron beam dynamics and fabrication feasibility.
