This study explores automated geometry generation and mechanical behaviour in additive manufacturing, suggesting improved designs.
The integration of metamaterials into metallic additive manufacturing presents a transformative opportunity to design and manufacture structures with tailored mechanical properties. This study explores the development and validation of mechanical metamaterials designed using an automated geometry generation tool, optimized for additive manufacturing processes. Computational models were developed to predict the mechanical behaviour of metamaterials under various loading conditions. Process considerations such as print orientation, mechanical design, strand width, process discontinuities, were systematically analysed to refine model accuracy and ensure reproducibility. This study establishes a pathway for leveraging automated design tools in combination with advanced additive manufacturing to achieve precise, high-performance metamaterial structures.
