Abstract Surface construction standardized design refers to a series of design documents with strong universality and reusability designed for similar stations, facilities, etc. in oil and gas field construction. Surface construction standardized design can effectively shorten the design and construction period, reduce project investment, and enhance the quality and efficiency of engineering construction. Since 2008, the Southwest Oil and Gas Field has gone through four stages: exploration, improvement, promotion and deepening. It has established a relatively complete system of standardized design documents from scratch, and formulated relevant management systems and technical regulations covering design, pricing, procurement, prefabrication and construction. This ensures that the standardized design work is carried out in an orderly manner. After years of practice, summary and improvement, it has gradually formed a core working policy for surface construction, which is centered on “standardized design, large-scale procurement, factory prefabrication, modular construction, information management and unified reuse standards”, effectively enhancing the management level of engineering projects. Since 2020, by actively changing concepts and deepening understanding, the standardized design work has achieved three major transformations: from “passive acceptance” to “active promotion”, from “decentralized and separate” to “centralized and unified”, and from “partial application” to “comprehensive promotion and enrichment and improvement”. The key work has been deepened and expanded into the shale gas and tight gas fields. Standardized design has been carried out for the process flow, functional modules, skid-mounted devices, key equipment, and general layout of the shale gas and tight gas platforms and gas gathering stations throughout their life cycles. Practical experience has demonstrated that compared with conventional design, the standardized design for the surface construction of unconventional gas in Southwest Oil and Gas Field can shorten the design and construction period, increase the utilization rate of new wells, save investment, improve the quality and efficiency of design and engineering construction, achieve digital management, comprehensively enhance the project management level, and help the management level of engineering construction projects reach a new stage.
