Philosophy of discourse transforms Kant's ethics into an ethics of responsibility, highlighting communication's role.
According to Apel philosophy of discourse is the last word of a paradigm shift marked by the so-called language turn. In the center of attention is the notion of communication, which is of course very different from the transcendental philosophy of consciousness, as Apel marks Kant?s position. In this paper, we try to show the transformation of practical philosophy based on the Apel?s critique of Kant?s ethics. Kant?s categorical imperative is based on the formal structure of reason in general, and at the same time, as the supreme principle of ethics, it is supposedly founded precisely on the facticity of reason. The philosophy of discourse deepens the transcendental argument of Kant?s philosophy and leads to the foundation of ethics of discourse, that is, to the transformation of ethics of duty into ethics of (co)responsibility.
