This work presents a unified MPPT controller that enhances power tracking in hybrid pv-wind systems, reducing costs and complexity.
Abstract Hybrid PV–wind systems often employ separate MPPT controllers for each source, leading to higher cost, complexity, and potential control conflicts. This work presents an ANN-driven single MPPT controller that simultaneously tracks the maximum power points of both PV and wind subsystems within a unified framework. The proposed approach is validated on a large-scale standalone system comprising a 2 MW PV array, a 2.6 MW wind turbine, and integrated battery storage. MATLAB/Simulink simulations confirm fast dynamic response, with settling times under 1 ms and accurate power tracking under fluctuating irradiance and wind conditions. The controller ensures stable DC-link regulation, enabling a three-level NPC inverter to supply high-quality AC power with total harmonic distortion below 2% during load changes up to 1000 kW. By replacing dual MPPT units with a single ANN-based scheme, the system achieves simplified control, reduced hardware requirements, and enhanced scalability for large off-grid renewable energy applications.
