Case report describes symptoms of tremor and coordination issues in FXTAS syndrome, suggesting neurodegeneration.
FXTAS syndrome (Fragile X Associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome) is a neurological disorder that occurs in men and women who carry a mutation in the FMR1 gene, located on chromosome X. Clinical case description: We describe a clinical case of FXTAS syndrome in a man who debuted after 60 years of age with a clinical picture of tremor, impaired motor coordination, balance problems, cognitive disorders and affective disorders. Conclusion: This observation of FXTAS syndrome (tremor/ataxia associated with fragile X chromosome) allows one to suspect a rare neurodegenerative disease, which determines further management of the patient.
