Case report addresses hemimandibulectomy prosthetic rehabilitation, showing improved quality of life and occlusion.
When cancers occur in the maxillofacial region, treatment often involves removing the malignant tumour along with some surrounding healthy hard and soft tissues. The success of prosthetic rehabilitation mainly depends on the tumour's original location and size. For patients who have a mandibulectomy, which involves surgically removing part or all of the jawbone, a precision cast partial denture is typically essential for restoring key functions like chewing and speaking. This not only aids physical recovery but also greatly enhances the patient's quality of life. The case described here specifically addresses prosthetic rehabilitation following a hemimandibulectomy, where one side of the mandible is removed. A customised cast partial denture was created to repair the defect and restore proper occlusion, ensuring the upper and lower teeth meet correctly. This method aims to recover both the functional and aesthetic aspects affected by the procedure surgery.
