This approach demonstrates complete regioselectivity in synthesizing α-trifluoromethyl pyrroles, suggesting its potential in chemical applications.
Herein, we report a general rhodium-catalyzed formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition of vinylcarbenes with nitriles using α-trifluoromethyl vinyl triftosylhydrazones as carbene precursors. This protocol enables the modular synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl pyrroles with complete regioselectivity. The reaction features a good functional group tolerance, high yields, and high chemoselectivity, making it well-suited for broader applications. DFT calculation supports the involvement of a key nitrile ylide intermediate.
