Simulation results show excitation light absorption increases in two-dimensional photonic crystal phosphors, implying better color-conversion efficiency.
Incorporating a high-refractive-index slab-waveguide-based two-dimensional photonic crystal (PhC) pattern into a quantum-dot phosphor film significantly enhances excitation-light absorption via photonic band-edge resonance. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations show that the resulting PhC phosphor absorbs more than four times as much excitation light at its resonant wavelength compared with a conventional flat phosphor layer, thereby markedly improving color-conversion efficiency. The proposed design is readily applicable to ordinary phosphor layers in LEDs and display devices, offering a practical pathway to brighter and more efficient next-generation lighting and display technologies.
