This approach develops a 3D T2 and ADC mapping technique in a single acquisition, suggesting improved accuracy for prostate MRI.
Motivation: 3D quantitative T2 and ADC mapping in a single sequence could offer improved reproducibility, resolution, geometric-fidelity and image registration for prostate MRI compared to standard qualitative 2D T2 and diffusion-weighted imaging. Goal(s): To develop a 3D distortion-free technique for T2 and ADC mapping in the prostate within a single acquisition. Approach: A 3D distortion-free T2 and diffusion-prepared reduced-FOV sequence was developed. T2 and ADC values were compared between proposed and conventional sequences acquired in the prostate of a healthy volunteer. Results: Images acquired with the proposed sequence were free from artefacts and exhibited T2 and ADC values comparable in range to conventional acquisitions. Impact: This work introduces a streamlined single-sequence acquisition for 3D distortion-free T2 and ADC mapping in the prostate which may enable the development of an efficient and robust quantitative single-acquisition prostate MRI screening programme.
