Analysis reveals MRI parameters predicting treatment outcomes and tumor regrowth in uterine fibroids.
Motivation: High-intensity focused ultrasound ablation has been used as a non-invasive method for treating uterine fibroids. However, no reliable method exists to predict the regrowth of residual fibroids. Goal(s): Aim to provide clues for predicting the efficacy and tumor regrowth of HIFU ablation treatment in patients with uterine fibroids. Approach: We compared the clinical features and MRI parameters of uterine fibroid before treatment and those of regrowth. Results: Lower T2 signal intensity of uterine fibroid was associated with better treatment outcomes. The iAUC value might associate with residual fibroid regrowth. MRI can be used to assess the outcome of HIFU treatment for uterine fibroids. Impact: We found the value of MRI in predicting the efficacy and tumor regrowth of HIFU treatment in patients with uterine fibroids. It is important for targeted disease management and has the potential to extend the duration of uterine fib reduction.
