Presentation explores how infection alters primary and secondary fracture repair pathways, indicating strategies for better outcomes.
This presentation will introduce the clinical aspects of fracture related infection and explore how infection affects both primary and secondary fracture repair mechanisms. In particular, it will consider which pathways may be affected by infection in each process of fracture repair and whether this is different for bacteria in a biofilm or in a planktonic state. The talk will consider how antibiotics affect the repair process and what options there might be for maximising the chance of success of a ‘union first’ strategy for treating infected fractures.
