This study compares metabolite concentrations obtained from SpectroView and LCModel, revealing significant differences in measurement reliability.
Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a non-invasive technique for investigating in vivo metabolic processes. Quantification of metabolite concentrations in MRS is typically performed using software such as SpectroView and LCModel . While SpectroView estimates individual metabolite peaks, LCModel fits the entire spectrum using a predefined basis set of metabolite signals. Although SpectroView is widely used in clinical research due to its accessibility, it is generally considered less reliable. In this study, we compared metabolite quantification results obtained using both tools across 87 MR spectra acquired from patients at the Research Center for Pediatric Neurology and Epileptology. The analysis revealed a higher average standard error in SpectroView (59%) compared to LCModel (34%). This discrepancy was primarily due to greater measurement uncertainty in SpectroView . These findings highlight the need for caution when interpreting metabolite concentrations derived using SpectroView , especially in clinical applications.
