Case report details synchronous left atrial myxoma and colorectal adenocarcinoma, suggesting prompt surgical intervention is crucial.
The occurrence of synchronous cardiac and colorectal tumors is extremely rare. We present the case of a 56-year-old woman with a left atrial myxoma that nearly obstructed the mitral valve inflow tract and a synchronous colorectal adenocarcinoma that nearly obstructed the intestinal lumen. The patient underwent emergency resection of the cardiac mass under cardiopulmonary bypass and successfully underwent resection of the colorectal mass two weeks later. Two years after these operations, the patient remains well with no recurrence of either tumor. Synchronous tumors, particularly when one involves the heart, require prompt surgical intervention at multiple sites to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
