Experimental analysis reveals the diffusion velocity and combustion characteristics of liquid oxygen, indicating its potential use in eco-friendly rock-breaking methods.
Liquid oxygen (LOX) rock‐breaking technology offers an eco‐friendly alternative to traditional explosives, featuring pollution‐free operation and rapid construction, but the research on modern LOX rock‐breaking technology is blank. In this paper, the proportioning experiments are carried out under the scale of experimental bottles, and the relationship between diffusion velocity and combustion change state under the different mass ratios of LOX and absorbent is found. In the experiment, the rapid combustion of the absorbent in LOX converted a large amount of heat and pressure into the kinetic energy of gas diffusion. At a mass ratio of absorbent to LOX of 1:20, the following were produced in the laboratory: an instantaneous maximum area diffusion velocity of 420 m 2 /s, a maximum instantaneous linear diffusion velocity of 356.25 m/s, and an air overpressure of 6.8 MPa at 5 cm to the right of the vessel. This paper investigates the rock‐breaking characteristics of LOX rock‐breaking through cement mortar model experiments, and determines the rock‐breaking action time and the main change process; finally, the field application of open‐pit excavation construction proves the practicability of the ratio of LOX technology and absorbent mass in LOX rock‐breaking, verifies that liquid‐oxygen blasting can be used for low‐impact blasting in situations where there are buildings around, and discovers the low‐frequency and high‐attenuation characteristics of the vibration of LOX rock‐breaking. Liquid oxygen rock‐breaking technology is a kind of easy‐to‐use rock‐breaking technology with a small influence range.
